Brief summary:
This book is about two teenagers (Owen and Lucy) that met in an elevator when the power goes out. After being taken off the elevator they stayed together the rest of the night, passing the best and unforgettable night of their lives.
In night goes on they talked as if they were old friends, telling each other things they normally would not tell annyone they just met.
As the days passed they are forced to move out to opposite places of the world, literally, leaving their relationship inconclusive. And unfortunately the only way to stay in touch is throughout postcards and emails
This book is about their relationship progresses and pauses as they travel around the globe.
This book wasn´t what I was expecting, this book was serious, dramatic (in the good way.) and exciting to read; It really surprised me.
What it is best of book or what I liked the most was the book wasn´t narrated in first person as books usually are, it was narrated in third person which was unusual(not in the bad way.) and so well done. I say this because many contemporary young-adult novels are usually narrated in first person, which is fine, but I was surprised.(well maybe I have only read Contemp. books narrated in 1st person.)
I really like it.
Discussion (Minor Spoilers)
I felt that with Owen and Lucy going in separate ways put their relationship in a “maybe” or a “what would have happen if” and the lack of communication after this separation made their relationship even weaker. But as times goes on they came in realization that they really loved each other.
I think that all the trips that Owen and Lucy did ,helped them to grow with their relationships with their parents, and for Owen also helped him to have a new beginning in his life. I really liked this about the book.
My favorite character was Owen maybe because he was going through much more serious things than Lucy.
I was happy with the ending, it was cute; but what I liked the most was that they actually made plans for the future; because some books end with no further conclusion, and that really annoys me; but this book told me that what is going to happen after their encounter. So I was happy!
Favorite quotes
“And the geography of the thing -the geography of them was completely and hopelessly wrong.” Chapter 9
“The most basic sort of love: to be worried about the one who was worrying about you.” Chapter 37
He was like one of her novels, still unfinished and best understood in the right place and at the right time. She couldn’t wait to read the rest. Chapter 48 This one is my favorite!
Spoilers Warining, Stay away if you haven´t read the book!
When Lucy met Liam I was happy and sad, (Liam was such a funny and sweet character) I couldn´t hate Liam, he was so sweet and I think he genuinely liked her. I felt sorry when Lucy broke up with him, It broke my heart; I wish he had his own story.
But for Paisley, I didn´t feel the same thing, but I was also sorry for her. I was kind of angry with Owen because how he treated her after he moved to San Francisco, she really liked him.
I think this was my only frustration in this book, but I think this is what happens when nothing is certain in long distance relationships.
I was kind of upset with Owen, because if perhaps he had sent her e-mails more often it would have saved him a lot of drama with Lucy. And when he finally sent her the email I was like: “See, It wasn´t that difficult!” and “See, she still cares.”
Conclusion, Safe to read!
I really enjoy this, it was exciting to read about their trips and reading what was going to happen next in their lifes.
I gave this book five stars
